The human body contains about 2-3 grams of zinc. Zinc is involved in around 200 enzymatic processes that regulate metabolic processes. The highest concentrations of zinc in the body is in the iris and retina (retina of the eyes).

Zinc, in zinc gluconate, appears to activate vitamin A. Zinc appears to be useful in preventing cataract formation, optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve). Furthermore, the highest concentrations are found in the liver, prostate, bone tissue, seeds and hair.
