Fo-Ti (He Shou Wu = lord with black hair) has been cultivated in China, Japan and Korea for centuries and is part of the daily diet of millions of people in Asia.

Fo-Ti is a climbing plant that can grow up to four meters high. Especially the Fo-Ti roots, but also the leaves have many useful ingredients. Fo-Ti is extracted from the root. The color pigments (melanine) are located in the so-called fibrous layer of the hair. The human hair color is determined by the mixing ratio of the black-brown pigment to the red pigment. The hair is protected by a cuticle around the fiber layer. Because this is transparent, the color pigments of the hair shimmer through it. If the scales of this layer stick out, the hair color appears dull, if they lie flat, the color pigments in the fiber layer shine powerfully through the cuticle layer. The production of melanins decreases over the years.
