Spirulina is a blue-green algae that thrives in alkaline salt lakes in Australia, Central America and Southeast Asia and, in addition to lots of high-quality protein and vitamins, also contains calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium, beta-carotene and important amino acids. Even the ancient Aztecs and the native Africans used Spirulina as a food source.
