Vitamin D3 is the active hormonal form of vitamin D. Most of the necessary dose of vitamin D3 is obtained by exposing the skin to the sun. The sun activates an inactive form of the vitamin and converts it into a functional hormone. Vitamins D2 and D1, which can be obtained from diet, are much less effective. Vitamin K is necessary for our body to be able to incorporate the calcium – which is now circulating in the blood thanks to vitamin D3 – into the bones (and not into the blood vessel walls). Vitamin K2 also regulates blood clotting.
